Warfare and Population

Warfare does not control population in modern agricultural societies.
For example, more than a quarter of Cambodia's population of 8 million was murdered between 1975 and 1980. Today, Cambodia's population is more than 14 million.
However, warfare may deeply affect the demographics of tribal societies. Although violence is only occasional, populations are low and the chances of violent death fairly high.

I've written a little about the Cambodian genocide for one of the musical selections for this class. This is a good time to go read that page. You'll find it here. Please take a moment to inform yourself about the genocide. Although the Khmer Rouge, the political party that committed the genocide was defeated in 1979, several members of Cambodia's current government were also members of the Khmer Rouge.
