Morphology  

A morpheme is the smallest meaningful unit of sound in a language.

A word is composed of one or more morphemes.

Morphemes come in two varieties: bound and free.

The two layers of phonemes (sounds) and morphemes (meanings) help create the infinite productivity of language.
