Despite the extremely variable relation between jobs and gender, there are some trends.

Female jobs tend toward the private/domestic realm (they can often be done in the household), male, toward the public.

This is echoed in political relations. Women's sphere tends to be domestic, men's public. However, the question of whether the public or private sphere is more powerful is often difficult to answer.
