Third(+) Genders
Numerous places recognize three (or more) genders.
Some of the best known are Hijra in India and Pakistan, Katoey in Thailand, Xanith in Oman and 'two-spirit' (berdache) in Native America.
Among the Bugis, an ethnic group numbering about 6 million in Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore, there are five genders: men, women, Calalai (anatomical female who take male roles), Calabai (anatomical males who take female roles) and Bissu (priests who combine all genders).
