Chaplin and Oona O'NeilChaplin was noted for his unusual and tempestuous private life. He had 3 (possibly 4) wives, three of whom he married when they were under 20.

Chaplin's longest lasting marriage was to Oona O'Neil, daughter of playwrite Eugene O'Neil. When they married he was 54. She was 18. They remained married for 34 years and had 8 children.

Edna Purviance, who played Chaplin's wife/relationship in many of his early films, was a key romance for Chaplin but they never married.
