Civilization Equals Oppression

State societies create more-or-less stable social divisions. Social divisions are ranked with respect to their access to resources.

Civilizations are responsible for enormous production in arts, learning, and so on because they free people to do these things full time.

However, the cost of doing so has generally been oppression of the masses who, Spencer aside, have not historically benefited from the achievements of their societies.
