The world of traditional anthropology, is long gone (and never really existed as it was imagined to). We live today in a world of communication and transportation.
Even places that seemed extremely remote are far more tied to the global economy than anyone could have expected even a decade ago.
Arjun Appadurai proposed the idea of a scape, a sort of global pattern, as a tool in understanding these patterns.
He proposed that there were ethoscapes, mediascapes, technoscapes, financescapes, and ideoscapes. These might overlap each other but are never identical to each other.
