Critical Problems
Behind the disparity of wealth lie a series of critical problems:
Rising populations: population growth is highest in places where life is most difficult and economic conditions are poorest.
Pollution: wealthy countries produce more pollution than poor countries but people in poor countries live in more polluted environments than those in wealthy countries
Climate change: no one really knows the long term effects but most models show greater impacts in the tropics where most countries are poor.
Political instability: in many cases, poor nations have faced decades of warfare. The Cold War was only cold in Europe.
